Mother charged in death of Falls Twp. toddler

Authorities in Bucks County have arrested and charged a mother in the death of her two year old daughter.

Kayla Moore, 23, was arrested late Tuesday night, just one day after the death of her two-year-old daughter.

Police responded to a call at the Wellington Woods Apartments Sunday where they found the injured child. According to police, doctors told them that the little girl's body was so broken it looked like she was in a car accident.

District Attorney David Heckler says the child was airlifted to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Sunday, where she underwent emergency surgery. 2-year-old Athena Wolfe died just before 7:00 a.m. Monday morning.

Authorities say she suffered blunt force trauma that caused bleeding to her brain, and autopsy results are expected to be released in the near future.

Police tell FOX 29's Sabina Kuriakose Moore kicked the child. Lt Henry Ward says the young stay-at- home mother at first told authorities the child had fallen then later confessed to murder. Athena had bruising to her face, back and chest.

Police say child services had not been to the home before but detectives and neighbors say Athena was severely underweight. According to police, her 4-year-old sister was home but didn't see what happened. Detectives are also investigating the mother's boyfriend, but he was not home.
