NBA's Dion Waiters' brother killed in South Philadelphia shooting

Philadelphia Police are investigating a shooting that left the younger brother of a local NBA star dead.

Officers responded to the scene of a shooting on 2300 block of Morris Street around 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night.

When officers arrived on scene they observed the victim, Demetrius Pinckney, lying on his back with severe head injuries, and a green dirt bike lying a short distance away.

Medics pronounced Pinckney dead at the scene a short time later.

Police say they were later informed that a man was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, with gunshot wounds to his lower body. He was listed in critical condition.

Investigators say some type of argument preceded the gunfire, and numerous quads and dirt bikes were chasing each other through the streets before shots were fired.

Pinckney's older brother is NBA Guard Dion Waiters. Waiters currently plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder, and has reportedly taken a leave from the team to be with his family.

Waiters is a Philadelphia native.
