MILLVILLE, N.J. (WXTF) - MILLVILLE, N.J. (AP/WTXF) -- A lengthy police standoff in Millville, New Jersey, come to a peaceful conclusion Tuesday morning.
The standoff began around 5:30 p.m. Monday when police were called to a home to help emergency responders dealing with a distraught man near 2nd and F streets. The man, 32-year-old Andrew Wildermuth, allegedly threatened to shoot anyone who tried to make contact with him before he barricaded himself inside the residence.
Several nearby homes were evacuated as authorities tried to negotiate with Wildermuth for several hours. But officials say he remained uncooperative.
The 14-hour standoff ended shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday when a state police team entered the home and took Wildermuth into custody without incident.
Wildermuth was taken to a hospital for an evaluation. Authorities say criminal charges are pending.
