New Jersey teen raises money for NICU

Moorestown, NJ (WTXF) A teen gave back to the hospital that gave him so much after he was born 9 weeks premature.

Melvin Shepard, 18, of Moorestown, has been running a fundraiser for the neonatal intensive care unit at the Children's Regional Hospital at Cooper  for the last 11 years called “Pennies for Preemies”. Melvin collects pennies throughout the day and then donates all of the proceeds to the hospital.

Since 2005, Melvin has raised over $2,000 in pennies for the intensive care unit.

Melvin himself was a patient in the very NICU  when he was born 9 weeks premature only 2.9 pounds back in 1997.
