New Year's Party Moved From Washington to Philly Over "Recent Worldwide Events"

- A New Years’ Eve party originally scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C., has been moved to Philadelphia’s  The Piazza at Schmidt's, organizers said Tuesday.

According to our sister station WTTG in Washington, the “Downtown Countdown” party has been relocated from the DC Hilton due to “recent worldwide events.” The promoters of the party, Lindy Promotions & Joonbug Events, offered to either refund the money of those with tickets or transfer their ticket to the Philadelphia party.

Joonbug.com CEO Jon Gabel has released a statement explaining the decision.

“DC’s Downtown Countdown has occurred in DC for over 10 years and it is a highly valued event for both Lindy Promotions and Joonbug.com, one that our customers look forward to every year," Gabel said. "The hotel let us know recently that they consider themselves a soft target due to recent threats on New York and DC.  With these concerns, we wanted to increase security measures but the amount in which the hotel demanded we increase it by made the event impossible to produce, monetarily.  We will be announcing some great NYE events in DC soon and hope to see all of our loyal customers there to ring in 2016."
