Papal Visit commerce hotline set to kick off Monday

- As the clock ticks down to the Papal Visit next month, more questions are being asked including what happens to businesses in the security zone dubbed “The Box.”

Beginning Monday morning, businesses will be able to call a commerce department hotline to ask questions about how to deal with restrictions due to the Papal Visit.

Food truck owners are concerned that they won’t be able to get out of the traffic box to get supplies. Many believe that logistically working will be impossible.

Big restaurants have the same concerns.

They aren’t sure how staff and fresh food will be able to get to their locations.

However, some are resorting to creative measures to make sure they’ll be open.

Mick Houston from Jack’s Firehouse said, “Most of my staff lives nearby, lots of bicycles. I live around the corner, we’re going to set up shop at my house to make sure everybody can grab a shower every day, sleep nicely.”

Others are opting to close and wait it out until the traffic box is open.

“I'll probably be closed. I think it will be hard for me to get in and out of the city… So better to watch on TV,” Mike Hanna from Mike’s Steaks said.

The commerce hotline is expected to kick off as early as Monday morning, but so far the number has not yet been released. More information can be found at http://www.phila.gov/Pages/default.aspx.
