PSPCA removes 17 animals living in allegedly unsanitary conditions at Holmesburg home

Philadelphia, PA - The Pennsylvania SPCA removed 17 animals living in filthy conditions from a property in the city's Holmesburg neighborhood.

The PSPCA's Humane Law Enforcement Officers executed a search warrant at the residence on the 7900 block of Marsden Street where 15 small dogs and 2 cats were removed. PSPCA officers were called to the property after receiving a tip from the Philadelphia Police Department of several animals allegedly living in unsanitary conditions.

The animals rescued were taken to the Pennsylvania SPCA's Erie Avenue headquarters where they will be examined and cared for by the shelter's veterinary team. They will remain in the care of the PSPCA until they are surrendered by the owner, or through the adjudication of the case.

The investigation is ongoing.

"The Pennsylvania SPCA is the only animal welfare organization in the region equipped to handle cases involving such a large numbers of animals, as evidenced in this case," said Jerry Buckley, CEO of the PSPCA. "Our Humane Law Enforcement Officers work to protect animals not simply from acts of blatant cruelty, but additionally from situations of neglect where their health and well-being may be at risk."
