Police: 6 arrested in Del. on charges of patronizing prostitutes

NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Police in Newark say six men have been arrested on charges of patronizing prostitutes in the New Castle County city.

The Newark Police Department says undercover officers placed a fictitious online profile of a female escort to see who would solicit the woman for prostitution. Out of roughly 150 calls or texts, six suspects responded to a hotel after allegedly requesting sex in exchange for money or drugs.

The men arrested in the sting ranged in age from 24 to 49. They were all ordered to appear in court at a later date and have been released from custody.

Police Chief Paul Tiernan says prostitution is not a victimless crime, as some assert. He says human trafficking, narcotics and violence is entrenched in prostitution activities.
