WILLINGBORO, N.J. (WTXF) - Police are investigating after they say an 80-year-old woman was stabbed in her home by a robbery suspect in New Jersey.
Officers responding to a robbery call Wednesday morning reportedly observed a suspect walking towards them on the unit block of Botany Circle holding a handful of money. When officers stopped the suspect, they noticed a trail of blood leading from a vehicle near the driveway to the front door of the home.
The man, identified as 29-year-old Joaquin Johnson, was taken into custody.
Upon entering the home, police discovered an 80-year-old woman suffering a severe stab wound to the arm. She reportedly told police that Johnson forced his way into the home through the front door, demanding she give him the keys to her car.
During a struggle for the victim’s purse, Johnson – armed with a large kitchen knife – allegedly stabbed the woman in the arm.
Police say Johnson tried to flee the scene, but was unsuccessful. Officers took the suspect into custody when they arrived on location moments later.
The victim was transported to Capital Health Systems in Trenton for advanced medical treatment.
This is an ongoing investigation.
