Police Investigate String of Armed Robberies Near Temple's Campus

- Police in North Philadelphia are investigating an armed robbery that occurred late last night at Broad and Jefferson streets.

Police responded to the 1400 block of West Jefferson Street for a report of a robbery around 10:45 p.m. Officers arrived to find a 19-year-old male complainant who told officers he was walking alone, when an unknown male approached him from behind, pointing a black handgun at his head.

The offender then directed the victim to hand over "everything you got," and ran off with the man's cellphone, wallet, and two debit cards.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

The suspect has been described as a black male, standing between 5'5" and 5'7" with a thin build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, and a dark ski mask.

Nearby Temple University sent out a tweet alert to students of the incident, telling them to use caution and avoid the area.

It is not yet known whether or not the victim in this incident was a Temple University Student.

The incident comes on the eve of Temple's parent's weekend, and is the third armed robbery in the area this week.

Authorities are also investigating two armed robberies that occurred early Thursday morning. In one incident, a Temple University Football player was leaving a Chinese restaurant off campus in the area of 10th and Susquehanna Street, when he was approached by two men.

One of the men was armed with a handgun, and the pair forced the victim to the ground. The suspects then took his cell phone and car keys, and drove off in his 2005 Cadillac CTS.

Police now believe that incident was connected with an armed robbery that took place just hours later behind the Liacouras Center on 15th Street. A student was help up at gunpoint on his way home by two men in hoodies.

Police believe the same two alleged gunmen were involved in both of those cases.
