When officers and paramedics arrived, they found a victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation revealed that the victim, Antwan L. Timbers Jr. was walking with a friend off the roadway when he was struck by Patterson.

Patterson remained at the location.

Burlington Police are working with the school district to activate crisis teams and have counselors on hand tomorrow to assist grieving students.

According to the press release, the charges brought against Patterson were traffic summonses. The investigation will continue to determine whether criminal charges are warranted against Patterson.
