Police are trying to piece together a deadly shooting in Norristown. A man was shot several times in the parking lot of a McDonald's there Tuesday night.

The man shot half a dozen times died in the drive thru lane.

Now, the drive thru is back open at McDonald's on the 200 block of West Main Street.

Police say a 24-year-old man was gunned down outside the fast food joint around 11:30 Tuesday night.

"I'm glad my daughter is alive and that's really all I care about."

Scary moments for Melissa Gates - her daughter close enough to hear the gunshots and see a car pulling away from the scene.

"I was out there. I heard about 8 shots. I got out there and the man was layer out nun the parking lot."

Early Wednesday, crime scene tape surrounding the McDonald's pick up window - evidence markers positioned under the menu board. Arriving Norristown Police found the young man dead outside the drive thru lane.

Authorities have not said whether the gunman or the victim were McDonald's customers.

In a statement the restaurant's owner, Jonathan Chong, says: "The security and safety of our customers and employees is always our top priority. We'd like to thank the local police department and our employees who responded swiftly and professionally."

The McDonald's is open 24 hours, and shares a building and parking lot with a gas station. Neighbors explain it's a hub of activity especially on a warm summer night. Alexis says she saw customers being let out of the store by police in the minutes after the shooting.

"You can't even go to McDonald's anymore. I can't even bring my kids outside."

Police are not identifying the victim.

We reached out to the DA's office but no one was available to speak on camera.
