Police: Woman assaulted while running in Camden County park

Police are investigating after they say a woman was assaulted while running in a Camden County park.

The incident took place on Sunday, Nov. 11 around 7 p.m.

Authorities say a woman was running the track around Haddon Lake Park when she was grabbed from behind by an unknown man and forced into a struggle.

The victim was reportedly able to escape the assailant. She suffered minor scrapes and abrasions, according to police.

As the victim fled the scene, she reportedly observed a man wearing a puffy black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes running into the wooded area toward the Mount Ephraim Little League baseball fields. He may have also been wearing a mask.

Oaklyn Police Department's K-9 team quickly apprehended a man fitting the suspect's description. The man was taken into custody, questioned and later released with unrelated charges. The man is still considered a suspect but has not been directly tied to or charged with the alleged assault at this time.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Sgt. Jason Dobleman via email or by calling 856-931-2220.

Mount Ephraim police also urged caution among runners in the area, particularly at night.
