Police: Woman beaten to death with hammer in North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Authorities say a woman is dead after she was beaten to death with a hammer in north Philadelphia.

It happened just before 5 p.m. on Sunday. Police say the 32-year-old was beaten to death with a hammer inside of a rowhouse. She was bleeding from the head and body upon discovery.

Authorities didn't immediately identify the victim, but now they have identified her as Izesha Gateward.

She was pronounced at 5:25 p.m.

According to officials, the initial investigation showed that the victim was involved in a verbal altercation with her boyfriend that turned physical when the boyfriend struck her multiple times with a hammer.

No arrests have been made.
