Resigning Radnor Township commissioner's iPad sent to detectives

The former president of the Board of Commissioners in Radnor Township is leaving the commission altogether, effective immediately.

Philip Ahr submitted his letter of resignation as president last month after he was charged with felony possession and distribution of child pornography.

On Monday night, he resigned as a commissioner, as well.

"To have this occur to someone that you gave your trust to is just beyond a pale," said Jane Galli, one of many people who attended the meeting where the board announcing Ahr's resignation.

"Good. He finally manned up and did the right thing and now on our dime on our tax dollars he was doing this," said Galli.

But his resignation wasn't the only announcement. The township manager said Ahr also returned a township-issued iPad Monday afternoon with something on it that forced them to turn it over to the Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division.

"Without elaborating, I would just like to state that what we found is deeply concerning and disturbing to me," said Township Manager Robert Zienkowski.

Ahr was already charged with possession of child porn last month. Monday night, the board voted unanimously to accept his resignation.

"I think jail is probably a good place for him and I hope he doesn't get out," said Alex Yannopoulos, who says he lives near Ahr.

"The allegations are very disturbing. I worked as a teaching assistant before so I take the safety of children very seriously," Yannopoulos said.

Ahr's wrote in his resignation letter, whicht he township manager read at the meeting: "I apologize for the personal mistakes I have made and the embarrassment I have caused that has damaged the public's trust." The township manager read the letter during the meeting.

Ahr's letter also said, "My immediate resignation allows me to focus on my own personal rehabilitation and to allow my colleagues to work on the issues facing the township."

The board now has 30 days to appoint a replacement. That person must have the vote of all four members.
