Riverside man charged with murder after fatal shooting of 35-year-old woman

A New Jersey man has been arrested and charged with murder following a deadly shooting at his home Saturday night.

Burlington County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi and Riverside Township Police Chief William T. Eliason announced Sunday that 42-year-old Darren Winningham has been arrested and booked on the charges.

According to a press release, just before 11 p.m. Saturday, police officers from Delanco, Delran, Edgewater Park, and Riverside Township responded to a call regarding a person with a gun at an apartment on the 200 block of Hooker Street in Riverside.

An investigation revealed that numerous people had come to the residence for a social gathering.

Police found the victim, 35-year-old Nikita Cross on the floor with a gunshot wound to the chest.

She was taken to Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County in Willingboro where she was pronounced dead.

Winningham, who lives at the location of the shooting, was taken into custody without incident and charged with shooting and killing Cross.

He was taken to Burlington County Jail on $500,000 bail with no 10 percent option and will have a first appearance in Superior Court on Monday afternoon.
