NICETOWN - It’s steep competition for K-9's and their partners from the greater Philadelphia area, who aggressively tackled an obstacle course at the K-9 Mud Dog Run Challenge for a good cause Saturday.
Plymouth Township Police K9 Officer Brad Fox was killed in the line of Duty in April 2012. Fox trained at SEPTA’s facility with his partner Nick.
The money raised at the Mud Run through t-shirt sales, raffles and general donations, goes to families of the fallen. Like Philadelphia Police Sergeant Robert Wilson, who was killed during an attempted robbery in North Philadelphia earlier this year.
SEPTA Police Officer Ted Hyrcyszyn is the showman of the competition this year, he and his pups powered through the course in Pope Costumes.
"This is one of more than 20 obstacles that the K-9's and their partners have to complete," he said. "As you can see - it gets pretty muddy."
While SEPTA Police Officer Javier Class admits the course was challenging and the water was a little bit cold- the adrenaline was pumping as he and his dog Ronnie kept their mind focused for the purpose of the event.
“You think of all the fallen officers,” he said. “Just wanna do your best.”
