Shots traded with officer, 3 suspects in custody following robbery

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Authorities say three suspects were taken into custody following a robbery in Delaware.

The News Journal reports police were dispatched to a robbery Thursday at about 6:45 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a person matching one of the robbers' descriptions.

New Castle County Police Chief Col. Vaughn Bond says as an officer approached the suspect, the suspect drew a firearm and fired at least one round toward the officer. Gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and an officer. A foot chase ensued until additional gunfire was exchanged, and the suspect was taken into custody. Neither the police officer nor the suspect was injured.

Bond says two additional suspects were taken into custody without incident.

An investigation is ongoing.
