South Philly man gives away free Christmas trees to needy families

A South Philadelphia man is giving back to his community in a huge way, and he's turned to social media for help getting the word out.

Danny Vanore took to Facebook to announce the distribution of free Christmas trees to needy families.

He wrote in the post, "If you know of a family that is down on their luck and in need of a Christmas tree, please send them to my location at 808 E. Passyunk Avenue (where 6th Street, Queen Street & Passyunk Avenue meet in South Philly) and tell them they could pick a tree up for FREE on me.

"They are leaning against the side wall and gate, just pick one out and carry it away, just please don't leave any trees laying in the street. I wish everyone [sic] of my facebook [sic] friends a very Merry Christmas. This is the most wonderful time of the year, so go spend it with the ones you love..."

FOX 29's Jennifer Joyce spoke to a man named Mike Deluca at the location who decided to pick up a Christmas tree for a family in his community.

"Well I came down because I have a neighbor who - they don't have a Christmas tree yet and they have a couple kids. And I was speaking to the girl over the weekend, doing a little painting for them. She said, well I may wait for the day before Christmas to get a tree," Deluca explained.

"I would imagine she just couldn't afford to get one right now. So I thought you know what let me just go down there and grab one, and bring it home after work and give it to them. Surprise them with a Christmas tree."

At the time of writing, there were only about two or three trees left at the location.
