Stop Hunger Now: Volunteers prepare meals to feed thousands

WEST CHESTER, PA (WTXF) - 800 volunteers of all ages came together through the night and early morning in West Chester this weekend.

All of them were working together at the Westminster Presbyterian Church to end hunger as a part of Stop Hunger Now.

"21,000 people currently die every day of hunger and 16 k of them are children," Richard Armenia of Stop Hunger Now explained.

Armenia says these packages are making a difference in many young lives.

"They consist of rice, which makes a child feel full, soy protein which gives them protein to grow - dried vegetables and micronutrient package which is the most important part of it all," Armenia explained, "We packed about 58 million meals last year and every single one packed by a volunteer."

This event made history.

"To our knowledge this has never happened ever. 24 hours straight of people coming together packing meals for malnourished children in developing countries," Armenia said.

The group is packing more than 500 boxes equivalent to roughly 15,000 pounds of food, which will be shipped out to people in need in a few weeks.
