Student, 12, arrested for Bensalem clown threats

Police in Bensalem have arrested and charged a 12-year-old in connection with clown threats posted on social media.

Investigators say the pre-teen posted on an Instagram page with the Handle "Bensalem Clowns" with pictures of a gun, knife and needle. The post read, "BENSALEM CLOWN we are coming Shafer and Snyder Tick Tock.

Both schools mentioned in the posts are middle schools in Bensalem township.

Police say the post caused increased police activity around the schools and worried countless parents and students.

The Bucks County District Attorney approved charges of terroristic threats and harassment against the 12-year-old for the threats. The student will also face school discipline.

Police determined there was no viable threat, and no students or staff were in danger. A strong police presence will remain around school facilities.

The arrest comes after a series of threats have been posted across the country. Philadelphia Police identified a 13-year-old girl behind threats against Philadelphia public and catholic schools, and police in Washington Township charged two teens in separate threats against two schools. Authorities in Mays Landing, New Jersey also charged a 13-year-old in a similar case.
