Teachers in Philly archdiocese approve contract; classes start Wednesday

The teacher's union and Archdiocese of Philadelphia reached a new two-year contract Tuesday.

The agreement means that 12,000 students will kick off the new school year Wednesday as scheduled.

Under the new contract, teachers will receive salary increases of $1,200 a year, with the average increase being 2.3 percent.

The medical plan and employee contributions will remain the same due to favorable claim experience with the medical plan, according to the Office of Catholic Education.
