Teen stabs partially blind man through the eye with kitchen knife

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - It was two weeks ago -- October 11.

Broad daylight, hours after school had let out.

It was the last day Kevin Warrington would be able to see the changing leaves of fall, or the friendly wave of his neighbor's hand.

That's the day Kevin was left completely blind after a fifteen year old boy he did not know violently and senselessly stabbed him through the eye with a kitchen knife.

"I have nightmares about it. Think about it all the time. Take a man's eyesight it's the worst thing you can do. I'll never be able to see straight anymore."

The 55 year old says he was just trying to do the right thing.

Breaking up a fight among a group of teenage girls right outside his doorstep on Elmwood Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia.

He asked the girls to please leave.

"Take it somewhere else."

Police believe the boy who came back was a friend of the young women in that group.

They say he returned with a vendetta, wielding a steak knife.

Kevin describes what happens next.

"I came off my porch walked up my street was talking to my neighbors somebody ran across the street from behind me and stabbed me in the eye."

The knife cut right through Kevin's left eye.

Doctors have told him he will need a prosthetic.

Already mostly blind in his right eye, Kevin can see almost nothing now.

The young boy could have taken anything else--Kevin's wallet, his personal possessions--just not the one thing no one can ever replace.

"It's a shame. They need to get this guy off the streets. These kids don't respect anyone anymore."
