Teenage girl dead after being struck by vehicle on NJ-42

A 15-year-old girl has died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing NJ-42 Southbound.

The incident occurred on Route 42 in the area of Shoppers Lane on Saturday at 8:09 p.m.

According to a press release, officers responded to a pedestrian motor vehicle crash in the southbound lanes of NJ-42 near Shoppers Lane.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Toyota Yaris was traveling southbound on the roadway, approaching its intersection with Greentree Road.

A pedestrian crossing the roadway from the media was stuck by the vehicle.

The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Cooper University Trauma Center where she was listed in critical condition.

The 21-year-old male driver of the vehicle was not injured during the crash.

The victim, later identified as Gavyn Connolly, was pronounced dead Monday evening.

The southbound lanes of NJ-42 were closed for six hours following the crash.

Chief Rafael Muniz the Washington Township Police Department is extending its deepest sympathies to the family of Gavyn Connolly during this difficult time.

The crash remains under investigation.
