Unclaimed $1M lottery ticket in NJ to expire soon

Officials say a lottery ticket with a cash value of $1,000,000 remains unclaimed in New Jersey, and it's set to expire soon.

The CASH4LIFE second-tier $1,000 a week for life prizewinning ticket, purchased for the December 8, 2016 drawing, is set to expire on December 8, 2017 if it goes claimed.

The ticket was purchased at a rest stop along the New Jersey Turnpike at the Joyce Kilmer HMS, Mile Post 78.7 North, in Milltown in Middlesex County.

The winning numbers from the December 8, 2016 drawing were: 08, 28, 29, 49 and 57. The Cash Ball was: 03.

The winning ticket will match all five of the white balls, but not the Cash ball, drawn that evening. The winner must have possession of the ticket to claim the prize.

Carole Hedinger, New Jersey Lottery executive director, wondered, "Is the ticketholder a traveler passing through our lucky State or a resident participating in a day of travel? We hope to meet the ticket owner to hear the story first hand."

Anyone holding the winning ticket should immediately sign the back and contact Lottery Headquarters at 609-599-5800, or visit any New Jersey Lottery retailer to validate the ticket.

Once validated, the retailer will provide the ticketholder with a validation slip and completed claim form that they can bring to Lottery Headquarters during business hours, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or mail.

This is the second recent occurrence of a New Jersey Lottery CASH4LIFE winning ticket getting close to expiration. The last $1,000,000 CASH4LIFE winning ticket was claimed with just five days to spare, by Melissa Corcia, a Vermont resident.

Ms. Corcia's mother heard the news reports about the soon-to-expire Lottery ticket and told her daughter to check her tickets. To her amazement, she held the winning ticket.
