Woman in serious condition after water tower rescue

A 59-year-old woman is in serious condition after authorities say she fell inside an empty water tower in Wilmington, Delaware Wednesday morning.

Rescue crews were called to the 2000 block of Montchanin Road around 8:25 a.m.

When crews arrived they found that the victim had fallen inside the water tower. The responding agencies then worked together to remove her from the tower, placing her in basket, and using a helicopter to get her safely to the ground.

The victim suffered injuries to her head, neck, arm, and back. She was taken to Wilmington Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.

New Castle County Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
