Woman shot and killed on front porch of Bridgeton home; 2 seen fleeing sought

In New Jersey, a woman is dead, shot to death on the front porch of her Cumberland County home. Neighbors are in shock and police are searching for the shooters.

A memorial is growing for Erica McNair outside of her Bridgeton home where police say the 44-year-old mother was shot and killed early Saturday morning. Neighbors shared photos of McNair, nicknamed Pam, and say she could not have been the intended target.

"She got a big heart. Really big heart. Like, she gave you anything. Like, it's sad because she didn't have nothing to do with whatever going on," said neighbor James Hooks.

Hooks says one bullet flew through his front window on Walnut Street. He was asleep upstairs. His wife, his children and extended relatives were downstairs in the front room when the shooting happened.

"I guess they heard the gunshots. Told all the kids to get down. She woke me up to see my neighbor laying in the doorway in a puddle of blood. We were just with her," Hooks explained.

According to police, McNair was shot in the head. She was transported to a local hospital where she died. There were two people outside with her when the shooting happened and another two people were seen taking off from the crime scene. Hooks says violence in the area is getting worse. His wife wants to move. McNair's friends and family members want justice.

"I want them charged for every little kid attempted murder that was in here and her murder. They need to turn themselves in and stop the madness. We all gotta live out here together," Hooks stated.

Bridgeton police and county detectives report "difficulty obtaining cooperation from witnesses." Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Detective James Riley at 856-982-6256. Tips may also be submitted anonymously online.
