Local Girl Fights to Recover After Tragic Accident

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) Local parents are in pain as their 7-year-old daughter Allyson lies in a hospital bed in the ICU at CHOP -unable to speak - but lucky to be alive.

"There was a point where we thought she wasn't gonna make it," Bridget Turner told FOX 29.

Three weeks ago, Allyson Turner was in the bathtub when her parents say they heard a thump. They went to go check on her and found their little girl underwater, unconscious.

Allyson was ultimately flown to CHOP in extremely critical condition. Her parents say they were shocked because she was a swimmer. They think Allyson either slipped or fainted and went under. Doctors don't know for sure.

"If we hadn't been sitting in the living room, she wouldn't be alive," said Bridget.

The Turner family are using their story to spread awareness.

"A lot of people I don't even know have reached out to me and said, 'Hey, read your story - it's unbelievable. I can't believe it happened' and I say it does happen - be aware," said Brad Turner.

Allyson's family launched a Facebook page titled "Just Fight."

"Everytime I left the room or left her bedside I would tell Allyson just fight because it was minute-to-minute you didn't know if you would be coming back to your baby girl or not," Brad explained.

Allyson's message is getting attention and people are responding. The family including Allyson's brother Liam- have been selling T-shirts and plan to turn their slogan into a foundation to hold CPR clinics and blood drives to help other families in emergency situations. In the last 15 days, more than $15,000 has been raised for the Turner family to help with hefty medical and living expenses as Bridget and Brad remain at their daughter's bedside coaching her through recovery.
