Longtime physics teacher, coach arrested on sexual assault charges

Media, Pa - (WTXF) Authorities say a longtime Ridley High School physics teacher and track and field coach was arrested on institutional sexual assault charges for an alleged relationship with an 18-year-old female student at Ridley High School.

According to authorities, Gregory A. Stanczuk, 52, a physics teacher of more than 30 years and head girls track and field coach, s charged with institutional sexual assault, a felony of the third degree.

"As a teacher and coach, Gregory Stanczuk flagrantly used his position of trust and authority to exploit the victim, manipulating her emotionally for his own sexual gratification," said District Attorney Jack Whelan.

The female victim says Stanczuk was her track and field coach during the four years she attended Ridley High School. He was also her teacher freshman year, according to authorities.

The victim says they spent a lot of time together and became close emotionally during her senior year when she broke up with her boyfriend.

According to authorities, oftentimes when Stanczuk drove students home after practice, he would drop off the victim last and they would be alone in the car together. Authorities say the alleged relationship eventually became sexual.

If parents believe their child has been victimized they should contact Sgt. Clark at 610-891-4118.
