Man, 25, charged in death of his grandmother, 86

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - A Philadelphia man is charged with assaulting his aunt and with the death of his grandmother.

Police say they responded to the 2900 block of Judson Street on March 9, and the victim's daughter told them "she found her mother unclothed sitting on the floor inside her second floor bedroom, unable to get up."

Medics took Janie Dawson, 86, to the hospital. Then, on March 23, she was pronounced dead.

Police say the Medical Examiner determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma, and the manner of death was homicide.

Wednesday, they arrested Dawson's 25-year-old grandson, Nathaniel McFadden.

Police added, "Further investigation revealed that Nathaniel physically assaulted his 62-year-old aunt as well." That was the day before the incident with his grandmother, but police say "she did not seek medical attention for her injuries."

McFadden is charged with criminal homicide, simple assault and related offenses.
