Man arrested for aggravated menacing in alleged road rage incident

Newark, Del. (WTXF) Newark police say they have arrested a man for aggravated menacing during an alleged road rage incident in Newark, Delaware.

According to police, shortly after 12 p.m. Tuesday, 58-year-old Christopher Esdale and the victim exchanged words at the intersection of Route 4 and Route 72. Police say they continued traveling westbound on Route 4 and turned onto Old Chestnut Hill Road with Esdale driving behind the victim.

Authorities say both drivers came to a stop and exited their vehicles on Old Chestnut Hill Road. According to investigators, while walking towards the victim, Esdale lifted his shirt and allegedly put his hand on a holstered handgun in his waistband.

Police say the victim yelled and got back into his car, at which point Esdale closed the driver's door on the victim's leg. The victim's screams were heard by a Newark Police Officer that was on Old Chestnut Hill Road. The officer exited his vehicle and took Esdale into custody without incident. The victim did not require medical attention.

Esdale is facing aggravated menacing and offensive touching charges.

Esdale is currently in custody awaiting bail.
