Man claiming he was robbed at NJ bus stop charged with filing false police report

Police spent a day searching for two armed robbers, one with a British accent. Now, they say the "victim" made his whole story up.

New Jersey State Police had reported the victim was waiting at a bus stop on Route 9 and Ash Road in Bass River, Burlington County, when the men drove up, asked for directions, took out a gun and robbed him.

That story has changed.

Police now say Michael Cohen of Bass River, "falsely reported to police that he was robbed at gunpoint on Monday, May 2."

They added Cohen, 65, "had a remarkable ability to recall minor details while he was staring down the barrel of a gun," but detectives "were able to determine that this whole story was bogus."

Cohen was charged with filing a false police report. He was released pending a court date.
