Teen charged with vehicular homicide, carelessness

A Montgomery County teen is under arrest and facing charges in a deadly crash that happened just over a month ago.

Kurt Kucharik, 19, is charged with homicide by vehicle, recklessly endangering another person, careless driving and related charges.

The crash happened early Sept. 20 in Upper Providence Township.

The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office and Upper Providence police say Kucharik was driving southbound on Trappe Road (Route 113) when he "crossed over completely into the northbound lane and into the path of (Catherine) Boyle's car," hitting hers head-on, just south of Paperbirch Drive.

FOX 29 News has the Affidavit of Probable Cause which states, "Boyle attempted to steer right but was unable to get out of the path of Kucharik's car. Kucharik struck Boyle's car offset head on. There was no evidence of braking or evasive maneuvers on the part of Kucharik."

It also says Kucharik had been driving at 52mph when his air bags went off.

Boyle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kucharik had to be extricated and went to the hospital with face and leg injuries.

He was arraigned and released on $50,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 10.
