BROWARD COUNTY, FL - A brazen abduction attempt in broad daylight, in Broward County, Florida.
This is where it happened--at Fourteenth and Fourth, in Pompano Beach.
Officials say the man drove up alongside the 13-year-old girl Wednesday and asked if she was walking home.
Joy Oglesby with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said, "And asked her if she was walking home. She ignored him. He then got out of his vehicle, grabbed her by the waist and tried to pull her into his car."
"He then got back into his SUV and continued to pursue her."
She ignored him but the suspect apparently got out and grabbed her by the waist and tried to pull her inside his car.
The 13-year-old screamed and eventually broke free of his grip, but it didn't end there.
The man followed her in his car as she ran down the street, eventually giving up and driving away.
It's scary for area residents, especially parents.
Broward County authorities are now doing what they can to track him down.
“It is very troubling and that's why we want to get him off the street,” Oglesby said.
Crystal Umana, who works nearby the scene, said, "It was in the daylight so I was even more shocked like wow, that's really bold."
"I'm very upset about it. He could look like anybody, like just a nice guy,” Jill Epler, a resident, said.
The suspect is believed to be in his late forties or early fifties with red-brown hair and a thin frame.
Broward County officials say it was a tan car, possibly a Ford Explorer.
