NORTHERN IRELAND (WTXF) - A 23-year-old woman want's the world to see how special her dog is.
Shannon Locke is the proud parent of Poppy, a two-year-old Labrador retriever who is a trained seizure alert dog.
Shannon suffers from epilepsy, and Poppy's help is necessary.
Earlier this week, Shannon shared a video of herself as she endures a seizure. The video, Shannon says, is embarrassing and took a lot of courage to make public on Facebook.
Shannon writes in the video description that Poppy had alerted her a seizure was coming a full 15 minutes before it happened. This gave her a chance to set up a camera and get to a comfortable place to record what happens next; Poppy doing the other half of his job.
When the seizure begins, Poppy remains calm, looking over Shannon.
Then he moves in, putting his paw on her and licking her face over and over until she comes to.
The video has been shared by several epilepsy support and research pages to spread Shannon's courage, and her message, that her alert dog is something she can literally not live without.
