LOS ANGELES, CA - An alleged kidnapping of a baby girl in California is now over.
Police say 2-year-old Yesli Jimenez was reportedly kidnapped on Monday and taken at knifepoint by the suspect -- 40-year-old Thomas Ray Dillingham.
He pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to one count of kidnapping a victim under 14 and assault with a deadly weapon.
Dillingham has an extensive criminal history and allegedly rushed into a residence armed with a kitchen knife demanding the child be handed to him while she was sitting on her grandfather's lap.
Dillingham yelled, "I’m taking the baby," according to officials.
One witness described his 911 call during the kidnapping.
"I dialed 911, and quickly started talking to the operator and kind of answering their questions. It was kind of crazy because we heard screams - uh - he ran off. I tried getting him, but he was too fast."
If convicted of the charges Dillingham could face up to 30 years in state prison, according to the district attorney's office.
