(FOX NEWS) - DEVELOPING: Spencer Stone, one of the three Americans hailed a hero in the French train attack in August, is in stable condition after being stabbed near Sacramento, a senior Pentagon official told Fox News.
The Air Force Times reported that Stone was stabbed four times in the chest early Thursday.
"A1C Spencer Stone has been transported to a local hospital, and is currently being treated for injury," an Air Force spokesman said, according to the report. "The incident is currently under investigation by local law enforcement."
Stone, a Sacramento State University senior, and two friends-- National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler-- were on the Amsterdam-to-Paris train in late August when a gunman started to open fire. The three Americans charged the gunman and were able to eventually subdue him.
"He seemed like he was ready to fight to the end. So were we," Stone said at the time.
