Couple Weds One Year Early after Learning of Mom's Stage 3 Cancer Diagnosis

LAKELAND, FL (WTXF) - A mother’s dying wish has touched the hearts of many people in our newsroom here at FOX 29.

Tyler Crosby and his girlfriend Amanda were set to wed in November 2016, but their lives changed forever when they received news about a close relative.

Tyler’s mother, Dorothy (Dot) Crosby, was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in August.

Devastated after learning about the medical diagnosis, Tyler, 23 and Amanda moved quickly to share the precious moment with his beloved mother.

"They even moved up their engagement," Tory Crosby, Tyler’s 23-year old sister said.

Tyler moved up the proposal because he wanted his mom to be a part of it.

"My brother decided to go ahead and do the proposal because he wanted my mom to be a big part of it. When we saw how happy she was, they decided to move up the wedding as well."

On November 15, the couple held a private ceremony a few miles from their Lakeland, Florida home.   Dozens of people came together for Dot, 48 to see her son marry Amanda. She was in hospice care and was brought to the ceremony in an ambulance.

The overwhelming act moved the wedding party and guests to tears.

"They were tears of joy that she got to be there and sorrow knowing she's probably not going to be there for mine," Tory told ABC News. "But she got what she wanted and you couldn't ask for more. It was definitely the best memory, watching her son get married -- especially to the girl of his dreams. We all love her."

Photographer Regina Racher captured the emotional ceremony including the dance between Dot and Tyler.

The couple, along with 40 other family and friends, got a tattoo on their hands of a small dot to represent their love for Dot.
