Indiana Councilman Accused of Murder Sworn In from Jail

- An Indiana councilman awaiting trial for murder was sworn into office behind bars last week.

Robert Battle, a 42-year-old representative of East Chicago, Indiana, took his oath at the Porter County facility last Friday.

Shockingly, Battle was reelected to his council seat when he ran unopposed in November – a month after federal authorities brought murder and drug charges against him, according to reports.

An official was brought in for the ceremony, which Sheriff David Reynolds told The Chicago Tribune there was “no reason for me to deny … legally.”
