HARDIN COUNTY, KY - While his three children thought he was still stationed in Kuwait, Lt. Col. Chris Field announces his return by surprising them one-by-one at school on Wednesday afternoon.
The reunions at John Hardin High, Bluegrass Middle School, and Rineyville Elementary were emotional for the entire family.
“Is Travis Field in here somewhere?” Chris said to son, Travis’, class.
“As soon as I heard...is Mr. Travis Field here...I was like, okay, what are they calling me for, turn around, I see my dad and I'm just like oh my goodness,” Travis says.
The children were all under the impression that there dad was still in Kuwait.
“I turned around and he was there and it was just crazy,” daughter, Cecilia Field, says. “We haven't seen him in so long and it was just really a great surprise.”
But not everyone in the field family was surprised—mom, Melissa Field, was in on the stunt too.
“We just knew that this would be a pleasant surprise for them and we were excited about their reactions to seeing their dad like that,” Melissa says.
But the surprise was not an easy secret to keep.
“We had to come up with a code to talk about him coming home,” Melissa says.
What’s in store for the Field family now?
“Hang out as much as we can with him. Well, I still want to go to musical theater,” Field says.
The children left school early on Wednesday and are already making plans for their dad.
Lt. Col. Field is now stationed in Fort Knox and is home with his wife and kids for.
