Choking causes man to crash vehicle, then gets gun pulled on him

- It was a bad day for one Missouri man who crashed his car into a store front after choking on a piece of food, leading the store's owner to pull a gun on him.

Donnell Byers got his chicken biscuit Thursday morning and headed down Wornall road in Kansas City, Missouri.

"I was driving and eating and I was choking on the biscuit, so I pulled to the side of the road and I was trying to grab for my orange juice,” Byers said.

In the frantic moments, Byers says he grazed a car parked in front of Mike's Liquors, so he stopped to see if he could find out who it belonged to.

But that's when the car's owner came to him.

Byers said, "He runs out of the liquor store with a gun in his hand grabs my car door and opens my car door up, and my cousin who's the passenger sees the gun and says pull off, pull off."

But as Byers sped off, so did the man police have identified as 29-year old Patrick Doohan.

Police say Doohan pulled along the driver's side, then the passenger's side each time with a semi-automatic pistol pointed right at them.

"I had the pedal to the metal, in and out of traffic just trying to get away and not let this guy get a clear shot,” Byers said.

But when they got to 79th and Troost, Doohan had them cornered.

“I thought it was over, when he had blocked us in like that, I thought it was over,” Byers said.

The gun was pointed at his head. Witnesses say he was shouting, “I’ll kill you.”

So, the witness called 911 and police arrived, taking Doohan into custody with a bullet still in the chamber.

With time to reflect on the whole ordeal, Byers can only joke about the way it all started.

"It will be a while until I eat another chicken biscuit again."
