SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY- Dashcam video captures a collision between a drunk driver and a minivan with kids inside Thursday.
The accident occurred at a busy intersection in Suffolk County Long Island on what seemed like a routine day.
Then out of nowhere, an SUV crosses the median, runs over a road-sign and strikes a mini-van that was recording it all on dashcam.
As bystanders try to help out, the driver of that SUV backs up, strikes another vehicle, then speeds forward and once again hits the mini-van.
This time you can hear the young children and mother inside the minivan scream.
The driver of the SUV has been identified as Linda Spina. The 53-year-old was arrested and charged with a DWI.
After the accident here at the intersection of Woodside Avenue and Ocean Avenue, Linda Spina was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical center where she was treated for minor injuries. Then on Friday following an arraignment, she was released from custody on her own recognizance.
No one answered the door at spina's home in Selden. Neighbors there are l earning of the accident this weekend, and say they're outraged.
Edward Powers lives right next door and has a 2-year child.
"It's not a joke. It's definitely scary and I think she deserves more than what she's getting, just a DUI. I think she should be charged with more than that," Powers said.
The driver of the minivan is Yana Krasnov, a Farmingdale resident.
She spoke with FOX 5 by phone, and says the family installed that dashcam as a preventative measure.
They never imagined something like this.
"When it happened second time it was like she was trying to kill us. Trying to kill us, escape police and everyone," said Krasnov.
She says her two children riding in the SUV at the time are fine, but she's disappointed additional charges weren't filed again spina.
"This makes me very, very angry," Krasnov said.
Spina is due back in court in early November.
