MOUNT HILL, NC- The exterior of the Heritage Gun Shop in North Carolina looks like a crime scene.
It's covered with yellow tape, evidence markers, and even a chalk outline to show where a body was removed.
No crime was committed there. Rather, it is the owner's unusual way of getting into the Halloween spirit, and it is coming under fire from local residents.
The store manager- Brandon Godwin said his goal was to go all out for Halloween.
The community in the town of Mint Hill is thinking differently.
After about 13 murders in the area happening in the last two weeks, residents are a bit on edge over the decorations.
Will Adams whose son was murdered didn't think the display was in good taste.
After speaking with Godwin, the two took the decorations down together; with the understanding it was sending the wrong message.
"I wasn't going to take it down because people said 'Oh, we don't like it.' You have the right to have your own decorations but if it's offending people on those grounds then I will take it down," said Godwin.
Adams and Godwin exchanged information after the redecorating job, and are planning to have gun safety classes for kids in the future.
