Massive search under way in abandoned mine for 3 missing Wisconsin boys

- Authorities in southern Wisconsin are frantically searching woods and an abandoned mine for three teenage boys who were reported missing Sunday.

The teens are believed to have disappeared in a wooded area crisscrossed with old mining tunnels. Their bikes were found in the area, according to Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt.

"We’re searching in the area of Mine Road and Ore Road and Neda Road – all in the town of Hubbard," Schmidt told "We have an old mine that was abandoned back in the early 1900s."

Tate Rose and Zachary Heron, both 16, and Samuel Lein, who is 15, were reported missing by their parents around 9:45 p.m.

The search, which includes firefighters, first responders and canine units from surrounding communities, went on through the night, and calls to the boys' cell phones went to voicemail, Schmidt said. Fox 6 reported drones and thermal imaging were also being used.
