Stranger Plays 'Taps' Outside Police Headquarters to Honor Fallen Officer

(FOX NEWS) - A stranger's tribute to a fallen police officer is touching the hearts of people across the country.

Columbus, Ohio, Police Officer Steven M. Smith died last week after being shot in the line of duty, Fox 59 reported.

According to the Columbus Police Department, staff at their headquarters heard unexpected music outside their building on Sunday.

When they opened their windows, they saw a man playing "Taps" to honor Smith.

After playing the song, the man delivered a salute and walked back to his vehicle.

Det. James Howe, who filmed the touching gesture, called it "pretty incredible."

The police department posted the video to their Facebook page and thanked the man. The post explained that he drove off before they could express their gratitude to him personally.

The department later added an update to the Facebook post, revealing that the man had been identified Graham Webb III and thanking him for his "kindness and compassion."
