New Video Shows Traffic Stop in Olney

Police say they were trying to help a driver involved in an accident when the man started to use his car as a weapon in Olney. He struck four Philadelphia police officers with his car, according to police.

Police say officers responded to 9th and Olney Avenue where a man driving a Chrysler 300 crashed into a wall around 2:17 p.m. Tuesday. According to police, when officers removed the man from the car, he struggled with officers and appeared incoherent. The man was then able to get back into the car. Police say when the man got back into the vehicle he struck three officers with his car.According to police, the suspect then led police on pursuit on Stenton and Ogontz and crashed into several cars along the way.

The 4th officer was struck by the car at this location, police say. The car finally came to a stop on the 1900 block of Colonial Street where shots were fired by police. Authorities were able to take suspect into custody. According to police, the suspect was shot in the chest. The suspect is currently in critical condition.

Police say four officers from the 35th District were injured. At least three officers are being treated at Einstein Hospital. Police say the officers' injuries appear to be non-life threatening.

Mayor Nutter and Philly Commissioner Ramsey released preliminary details about the incident during the press conference.

"I've seen all four police officers; I've talked to all police officers. They are all pretty banged up, but in good spirits," Nutter said. " This is an example of some of the dangers that police officers encounter on the job."
