Newborn Baby Boy With Umbilical Cord Attached Found Abandoned on Apartment's Back Porch

(INSIDE EDITION) Police are searching for the parents of a newborn baby boy they say was found abandoned on a Florida porch.

The infant was found with his umbilical cord still attached by a 35-year-old man coming home from work who heard a crying noise coming from his porch at the Buena Vista Point Apartments at about 8:40 a.m. Monday, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

The baby had been placed on a wicker love seat and was wearing a diaper, a child-size small black t-shirt with a red Nike logo and was wrapped in a brown fitted sheet, authorities said. He was just hours old, hospital officials determined.

The man brought the baby inside and his roommate called 911.

The child was taken to Winnie Palmer Hospital in good health and was placed in the care of a Florida Department of Children Families foster home, officials said.

Deputies released photos on Monday of the baby, saying: "Please look at these pictures. We are hoping to find this sweet child's parent or parents…There is concern for the well-being of the child's mother since she has yet to receive proper medical treatment, and may suffer from complications relating to child birth."

A Safe Haven law is in place in Florida, allowing a parent or parents to leave a child at a fire station or a hospital with no questions asked. The baby boy was found less than a mile from a firehouse.

Anyone with information is asked to call 407-254-7000, extension 70588. There should be no fear of facing a criminal offense, deputies said.
