Overnight fire leaves people in 4 townhomes without homes

A late night fire at a Delaware County townhome complex is out, but 11 people are out of their homes just before the holidays. At one point, you could see flames shooting out from the structure.

Authorities say it started in Aston at about 11:15pm Tuesday and grew to two alarms, and it was placed under control in about an hour.

The fire affected four units in the complex at Linda Lane and Birney Highway. Two of them are total losses. The two others have significant damage.

The Red Cross says it assisted six families, consisting of 11 people.

A female volunteer Aston firefighter suffered a minor lower leg injury, but is said to be doing well.

Fire crews wrapped up the scene after several hours and restoration crews are boarding up what's left.

The investigation into the cause of the fire will continue at daylight, when authorities can get a better look at the damage.
