PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (WTXF) - If only it was a few degrees colder, maybe Philadelphia would be blanketed in a white Christmas Eve. Instead, rain to punctuate the day and it was a day that was chaotic for some, calm for others.
And yes, with the mad dash at the mall in the waning hours of Christmas Eve shopping is where FOX 29 found Linda Richmond.
“I was fully done last night, or so I thought and my husband said we need new stockings and we need to get them embroidered and I’m like what? Today what!!” said Richmond.
That’s right, getting the last gift, or maybe something else. Time runs thin as malls and stores were ready to lock the doors. For some, they kept a steady calm.
“Shopping is definitely relaxing to me. I’m having a good time despite the crowd shopping part is fun,” said last-minute shopper Nailah Hill.
“Trying not to spend too much money. Get out of the mall, go home and hang out with the family. That’s what matters,” said shopper Isaiah Winikur.
In Center City, they were getting ready to turn out the lights at Reading Terminal Market. It was definitely a busy day for vendors and shoppers.
“We ran out of thyme. What is it? Rosemary, sage and thyme? We ran out of two of those things today,” said Nick Jacobsen, of Iovine Brothers Produce.
“We’re doing great last minute shopping. The family loves Reading Terminal. Love this place. It’s alive. We're going to go to Macy’s, spend time with family,” Gil Ortiz, a last minute shopper, said.
And, no better place to drop the shopping bags and ease into the actual holiday spirit.
“We kind of made it a tradition to come in every year, walk around and have a little fun. Once the storm is done at home, we came here for relaxation,” said Sean Quinn, enjoying a quiet moment.
“You just enjoy the lights and the joy. The people, the kids, the music, the skating, the shows,” said Lisa DiColli, out enjoying a bit of calm.
Of course, FOX 29 went looking and easily found the Christmas Eve chaos, along with the calm and peace that comes with the holiday.
We at FOX 29 wish you the happiest of Christmas wishes.
