PHOTOS: Nonprofit Builds Awesome Halloween Costumes for Kids in Wheelchairs
(Fox News) - A family-run nonprofit is turning fantasy into reality for children in wheelchairs.
Oregon-based Magic Wheelchair says its mission is "to give kids in wheelchairs an unforgettable Halloween by creating custom costumes for them at no expense to their families."
Each year for Halloween, the organization chooses five children to work with from a pool of submissions, and brings their costume ideas to life with a team of designers and builders.
Photos show wheelchairs transformed into dragons, monsters, armored horses and even a pirate ship.
The project is close to home for founders Ryan and Lana Weimer, who have three children with muscular dystrophy who are expected to use wheelchairs for the entirety of their lives.
Ryan built his son Keaton a pirate ship in 2008 as his first custom design.
